Spares Information

NEED A SPARE – Spare lists for each league can be found in three ways:

1. Posted at the Club by the league schedules.
2. On the Curling Registration system (click here, then choose the league, click on the name and select ‘Spares’ under the title – you must be logged in to view the info.).
3. On a separate password protected page (click here).  If during the season you require a password or forgot your password, please contact qualicumcurling@shaw.ca.*

BE A SPARE – If you would like to be added to a Spare List, add your name to the list(s) at the Club or using the Curling Registration system (click here, make sure you log in, select Account from the top right corner, then choose Sparing). This information will then be transferred to the on-line lists indicated above. Please see the information below about costs for sparing.

*Emails ARE NOT monitored 24/7; please try to plan ahead when needing spares.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ADDING/FINDING SPARES USING THE CURLING REGISTRATION SYSTEM – Sparing Instructions-Curling I-O

All spares must be paid members of the Club (including payment of Curling Canada and CurlBC fees – see below for the link to purchase a membership). If you are a fully paid up member of a regular league, you can spare in any league at no additional cost. If you are NOT a member of a league, you can spare during the season for $15 per game payable before playing. Payment can be made by cash at the Club (put it in the white box on the desk near the office), or e-transfer to qualicumcurling@shaw.ca or by credit/debit (during office hours).

For games with four players:

• Each team will be responsible for obtaining their spares.
• A team requiring spares cannot have more spares than regular registered team members. A team with three or more spares will forfeit the win but the teams are encouraged to play the game.
• A spare can play any position the individual is replacing or lower; however, cannot bump regular players to lower positions. For example, if the skip cannot play, the spare may replace the skip. If the third cannot play, the spare can play third, second or lead, but cannot skip as that would involve moving the skip to a lower position.

For games with two players (eg. Stick/Sturling/Doubles):

• Each team is responsible for obtaining their spares.
• Two spares may play without the team forfeiting the game.

For games with three players (eg. Triples):

• Each team is responsible for obtaining their spares.
• Two spares may play without the team forfeiting the game; one original team member must play.
