Masters' League
If you are male, retired, over 50, you are welcome to join our
league. (in its original state, our league was restricted to
men over the age of 60, but the demographics have shifted
downward, as have numbers.) We are members of the Pacific Coast
Masters Curling Association, a provincial level curling
organization, whose members are daytime male curlers over the
age of 60. The PCMCA and its corresponding interior
organization co-host annual provincial championships. This year
they will be hosted by the interior group, and will be held in
Kimberley, in March. Participation in this event is restricted
by age (60), but our club activities are not.
We play on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in two separate leagues,
although many of us play in both.
Tuesday league (less competitive): teams are drawn from the hat,
and play until Christmas; in the new year, new teams are drawn;
new curlers who have taken our novice clinic are welcome to play
in this league; we will fit you in!
Thursday league: (more competitive): this league is a team of
choice, for more experienced competitive curlers. Teams are
already formed for the full season. They are always looking for
experienced spares though.
Our league hosts two bonspiels:
The "Out Of The Hat Spiel", in mid-December; entries are restricted to
teams from "out of the hat" Masters leagues from our and other
clubs. Limit is 16 teams. The spiel runs over 3 days (Friday -
Sunday)
The "Masters Spiel 55+", first week of January; entries are teams of
choice, with curlers playing in our and other Masters leagues.
The level of competition is somewhat higher in this spiel, owing
to the team format. We co-host with the Parksville Curling
Club, and can host as many as 32 teams.
